Modroc Volcanoes

Active Planet (IPC topic)

This week, the children have been learning how to work with modroc. You may have noticed some tiny fragments of modroc on their uniforms! Their volcanoes are now taking shape and clearly showing the different features of a volcano. You can see the focus on the children's faces and their enjoyment of the activity shines out!

Aspire 2 Be

What an inspiring and aspirational afternoon the children had at the Aspire 2 Be event. The children visited representatives from a wide range of professions (engineers, doctors, dentists, opticians and even a presenter from TFM Radio!) and had the opportunity to ask the representatives questions about their careers.

What impressed me most was the children's lovely manners and their self - confidence at communicating with adults.

Following jumbled instructions!

This week, the children have been finding out about the special features of instruction texts. One of the activities was to follow a set of instructions to decorate a biscuit as a ladybird. However, there were some puzzled faces as the the instructions were all jumbled and not in chronological order. Some of the children were quite cross with the instructions! They learnt from this the importance of setting out instructions in chronological order and with a clear list of ingredients. We then had a happy time munching the biscuits together!

Inspired by Jackson Pollock

Year 3 and 4 have been exploring the art work of Jackson Pollock.  Nya felt inspired by the images and instantly began talking about how we could use this style of art to create volcanic images.  Harry thought carefully about how the different images made him feel.  Miles was very enthusiastic when creating his image, claiming he felt like a wizard and his paintbrush was a magic wand.
