IPC Exhibition

This morning we held an IPC exhibition to showcase some of the children's learning from the first few weeks of term.  All of the children from Year 1 to Year 6 have been studying a unit linked to the human body and therefore this was an ideal opportunity to come together with our parents.

I was really impressed with how enthusiastic and informative our children were - well done to you all.

Roald Dahl Day

We have had a wonderful day in the Prep School celebrating Roald Dahl day, having fun and raising money for charity.  Some of the children even started to read one of Roald Dahl's books in our guided reading lesson this morning.

Thank you to all of the parents for providing some fantastic costumes.  I'm sure you will agree that all of the children looked amazing!

Brilliant Bodies

Yesterday, the children in Years 3 - 6 enjoyed a fantastic 'Brilliant Bodies' workshop delivered by Abbie from Love Science.

The children are currently studying the human body as part of their IPC units and this hands on workshop allowed them to explore some of the processes and systems that occur in their body.

The children looked at the importance of hygiene and the 'germ detectives' soon found a host of germs all over the children and their surroundings which had spread incredibly quickly.  They thought about the human defence of getting rid of germs and to illustrate this made some snot to take home!  The day also included looking at human and animal skeletons as well as the digestive and circulatory systems.  The highlight for some children was dissecting a real heart so they could look more closely at the different parts, relating this back to their prior learning.

Here are some photographs from the day.  A greater selection can be found in the photo gallery of this blog.

Speech and Drama

For those children who are taking part in speech and drama lessons, they will take place on a Tuesday 11.15-12.15.

IPC Entry Point

This afternoon, the children in Years 3 and 4 have begun their new IPC topic 'How Humans Work'.  They have started to think about their hearts and how their heart rate changes after having completed some exercise.

The children were magically transformed into mini doctors and thoroughly enjoyed using the stethoscopes to listen to their friends heart beat before and after exercise.  We will be building on this activity later in the term, where the children will be taking more careful measurements of their heart rates in a scientific investigation.

Here are a few photos but you can find all of the photographs in our photo gallery section of the blog.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to what I'm sure is going to be another busy, exciting year with lots of fantastic opportunities for the children.

A special welcome goes to Flo who joined Year 3 today, as well as all of her family as they settle into the THS family.

The children have had a great day and were very excited to be in Year 3.

See you tomorrow boys and girls for another fantastic day.
