The Powers of Persuasion!

This week, the children in Year 3 have been studying persuasive texts in English.  Having looked at a range of different texts and examples of language features, the children were tasked to write a letter to their parents to try and persuade them that children aged 7 and over should be allowed to choose their own bedtime at the weekend.

There were some great letters produced and I was particularly impressed with Evie's letter which I have shared with you below.

I wonder if her letter was successful?!

 Dear Mum

Having been a gorgeous, beautiful daughter of yours for the past eight years I feel it's now time for me to make some of my own decisions. Myself and my friends have discussed this and we think parents should allow children from the ages of 7 Years and over to decide their own bedtime on a weekend.

Firstly I am sure that you will understand the need for me to have some freedom at bedtimes? Specifically on a weekend, given that there are no early morning wake ups because we have no school.  I believe that giving me the opportunity to decide on my bedtime will certainly encourage a high level of maturity in the future when making more important decisions.

Of course I am happy to help in and around the house which will benefit you!
I am sure this will be of some interest to you? As you can see I am very excited at the colourful idea of being  able to stay up later on the weekend . Without doubt I will be able to watch some later programs on the TV , which can be very educational, for example ‘ The Great British sewing Bee’

Also I will make sure that all my homework is finished to the best of my ability therefore proving that my bedtime will not spoil my school work .
In addition it will give me time to make sure my bedroom is kept amazingly tidy, furthermore I will have time to read my fabulous books in bed.

On the whole I can see many advantages to choosing my own bedtime not only for myself but for you as parents. I am sure that children who are given some freedom at a younger age are less likely to be naughty.

As you can see there are some very important  points to consider in this letter.
I look forward to hearing your reply.

Your sincerely

Your gorgeous daughter Evie
